LIBERTY LIFTS THE SPIRITS OF PARALYZED IRAQ
VETERAN
PATERSON, N.J. - Liberty Elevator Corporation has
teamed up with the organization, Homes For Our Troops, to donate
its elevator maintenance services to Visnu Gonzalez, a paralyzed
Iraq veteran.
After another elevator company donated their services to
installing the elevator, Liberty was contacted to volunteer its
services to maintain the elevator. Quarterly, Liberty visits
Gonzalez's Hillsdale home and provides continual preventative
maintenance in addition to responding to any service calls in the
interim.
Corporal Visnu Gonzalez was severely paralyzed after being shot by
a sniper bullet during his second tour of duty in Fallujah, Iraq in
2004. Gonzalez has no use of his legs and limited use of his hands.
He is in constant danger of infection, as his body is unable to
regulate its own temperature. After years of calling a hospital
home, Homes For Our Troops provided him with the opportunity to
live in his own home uniquely suited for his needs.
Every aspect of Gonzalez's home is designed with his physical
limitations in mind. Lights are controlled by motion sensors to
allow for hands free operation. A removable touch screen that is
attached to his wheelchair permits Visnu to operate the front door
and control outside amenities such as the garage and sprinkler
system. The home is multi-level, requiring an elevator be installed
to transport Visnu between floors.
Homes For Our Troops (HFOT) is a non-profit charity organization
founded in 2004. The American Institute of Philanthropy gave HFOT
an "A" and is a top-rated Veterans and Military Charity.
HFOT is always looking for volunteers and charitable donations.
